I keep coming back on this post :) My husband is bugging that we go to this place on our backpacking trip to Indonesia on June. Any insights on getting here from Borubudur? thanks much :X

You should go! There are many travel agents in Yogyakarta who can book a cheap tour for you to Cemoro Lawang (where Gunung Bromo is). You'll find them along Jalan Sosrowijayan and Malioboro. If you intend to do the trip yourself, it's pretty tricky. You need to go to Surabaya first by train or bus, then bus to Probolinggo, then Cemoro Lawang. Will re-post my Indonesia blogs (more in-depth) sometime soon, will let you know when they're already up.

Great. Thanks! I think we'll have to consider agents for this tour, will one day suffice?

Oh, one day will not be enough. Because the travel agent will book an accommodation for you (according to your budget), then you check in for one night. The view of the volcanoes is best at dawn, so the driver of your 4x4 jeep will pick you up at 3-ish am.
