5 Breathtaking Places To Visit In Africa

As you know, we’ve visited a lot of places as a family. Our daughter alone has over 33 different countries ticked off her list and many more to come. However, Africa is somewhere really amazing, with so much to see and do that’s unlike other places in the world. It’s a huge place to explore and it can be hard to know where to begin, so here are just five breathtaking places to visit in Africa.

Tanzania

One of the best places for a safari in Africa, Tanzania boasts some of the biggest game reserves and parks, as well as plenty of expert guides to help you find the best places to explore.

Head to the Serengeti National Park at the right time of year and you may be lucky enough to see the start of the Great Migration, where over 1.5 million wildebeests, zebra, and gazelle make the round trip to Kenya’s Masai Mara.

Take a trip to the shores of Lake Tanganyika, but be sure to look up and see the chimpanzees frolicking above your heads, and take some time out on the stunning beaches of Zanzibar.

Morocco

Morocco is such a diverse place to visit, thanks to its mixed heritage, with evidence of influences of European, Berber, and Arab culture. It’s a colorful land full of the most incredible food – a real treat for the senses.

Be sure to visit Marrakech while you’re there and take a look around the incredible markets, which are the perfect place to pick up some gifts to remember your trip by. The scenery in Morocco is as diverse as the culture, from snowy mountains to bustling cities, so even just taking a walk around will be an experience in itself.

Ethiopia

Ethiopia has a lot to offer if you’re interested in history or archeology. Be sure to visit the ruins of the ancient city of Aksum and the incredible Gondar Castle. However, if you’re more of a live-in-the-moment kind of person, the Simien Mountains National Park and Nechisar National Park are fantastic for hiking and checking out the local wildlife.

Seychelles

Seychelles is one of the most luxurious areas of Africa and as such is very popular with honeymooners or those looking for something a bit special. The beaches are stunning, with white sand and clear turquoise waters, and yet they are not overcrowded like many other tropical paradises.

However, there are also incredible jungles and mountains, too, for those who like to explore between enjoying some relaxation. None of the beaches are private, which is fantastic for visitors, as it means nowhere is off limits, and it’s all generally cheaper than many other luxury areas.

Botswana

A lot of work around conservation and protection of wildlife and the environment is done in Botswana, so this is another must-visit for animals lovers. For an unforgettable safari, head to Chobe National Park, or the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The area is known for incredibly friendly locals, so be sure to make an effort to chat to them to learn more about the area, and enjoy one of the famously stunning sunsets.

Wherever you go in Africa you will find something incredible and make a new memory, but these are five of the most breathtaking places that it has to offer. There really is something for everyone in Africa and once you’ve visited one part, you will likely be adding others to your bucket list too.

Do you agree? Did I miss any places out? Let me know in the comments!

When not backpacking, she teaches her daughter sight words and belly dancing (even if she's not good at it). She's currently eating her way around some hippie town in Australia. She loves talking about herself in the third person.
