Just like the museum of Alicante, this old church is a site to behold. It is a Gothic style construction built between the 14th and 16th centuries on the ruins of a mosque. When you get there you’ll be greeted by a beautiful sculpture designed by Juan Bautista Borja. In the basilica you’ll find interesting art: a breathtaking carving of Santa María and a statue of Santos Juanes. The art is decorative and the baptistery a work of the School of Michelangelo. Visit this town hall to experience the splendor Alicante has to offer. It is a beautiful 35 meter twin tower that consists of a stunning blue room (Salón Azul), plenary and chapel. It is open to locals and tourists.
The location is as interesting as the history behind it. Guadalest Valley was a strategic military site with many ancient buildings whose ruins can still be seen despite earthquakes and battles in the 18th century. It was a military site of strategic importance.
Isla De Tabarca/ Tabarca Island
The island has excellent water that is home to a variety of sea life. It’s very rich in history too. Long-ago, its coast was a safe haven for Berber pirates and, in the 18th century, the Island was fortified and a town builds to house families of Genoese fishermen who were imprisoned in Tunisia. No wonder the walls surrounding the city are officially a historic and artistic site.
There’s so much to do in this beach other than sun bathing and enjoying the magnificent view. If you fancy a long peaceful walk, you can have one when visiting this beautiful city. Not only does Guardamar beach have fine sand, there are also 100 year old tree planted in the sand dunes to prevent the wind from blowing them away. They also protect the walkers from the sun.
